Maungawhau

The

City of Sails

Let us briefly introduce you to our beautiful city Auckland. The Maori name for Auckland is Tāmaki Makaurau which means Tamaki of a thousand lovers. the .We live on an isthmus surrounded by two harbours so the sea is very precious to us. There are also around 50 volcanos in Auckland that create a very rich and fertile land. It's understandable why people have been living here since the start of Maori migration to New Zealand (circa 1350).

Maungawhau

Mt Eden, also known as Maungawhau, is a volcano erupted 15,000 years ago and is without a doubt the best view you can get of Auckland (and best of all, it's free.) A quick walk 25 minutes walk from our hostel will take you right to the summit where you can enjoy an amazing panoramic view of Auckland.

Rangitoto

Waiheke

Rangitoto erupted only 600 years ago making it the most recent volcano to erupt in Auckland It sits pristinely out in the Hauraki Gulf and it a great place to visit if you are staying in Auckland for more than a couple days. If you are keen to head out and explore some lava caves then ask our staff about ferry information or even about a sunset kayak trip if you're feeling more adventurous.

Waiheke is probably our favourite place in all of Auckland,

Muriwai

Mt Eden, also known as Maungawhau, is a volcano erupted 15,000 years ago and is without a doubt the best view you can get of Auckland (and best of all, it's free.) A quick walk 25 minutes walk from our hostel will take you right to the summit where you can enjoy an amazing panoramic view of Tāmaki Makaurau (name for Auckland in Maori).
